BS5726 2005 Microbiological safety cabinets - Information to be supplied to the purchaser from the supplier and to the installer, and siting and use of microbiological safety cabinets - Recommendations and guidance.

Note, this standard supersedes  parts 2&4 of BS5726 1992

BS5726 (1979 version 1, 1992 version 2) is the old (repeat old - i.e. no longer the standard one (you) should be working to (safety advisors/officers, take note) when considering new equipment). British standard for microbiological safety cabinets, (mandatory sections 1 & 3 now replaced with the European (CEN) Norm  EN12469 2000 (BS EN12469 2000 in the UK), note; good advice is always good advise i.e. parts 2 and 4.

BS5726 1992 is written in four parts with parts with parts 1 and 3 being mandatory (i.e. specifications that have to be complied with) while parts 2 and 4 are only (albeit good ones) recommendations - comply if you can!

Again, this is no longer a current standard and one should refer to the new norm of (BS) EN12469 which was approved by CEN (European Committee For Standardization - English and Comite European De Normalisation - French) on January 2000.

Note: CEN members (most of Europe (all of the EU and beyond) including the UK) are legally bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this (EN12469) European Standard the status of a current national standard without alteration (WITHOUT ALTERATION).
