EN12469 or to give it its
full title in the UK, BS
EN12469: 2000 Biotechnology - Performance criteria for microbiological
safety cabinets is the current and ONLY CEN (European) 'norm' standard for
microbiological safety cabinets (msc).
EN12469 2000 is broadly similar to NSF49 of the United States and their class II Type A2 biological safety cabinet (class II bsc). This standard replaces ALL previous European standards (BS British, DIN Germany) and CEN France) and in the UK the standard replaces parts 1 and 3 of BS5726 2005 (parts 2 and 4 being recommendations as such we at SCS Ltd recommend one should still consider them when looking to purchase new equipment). There are three (and only 3) classifications of en12469 msc (microbiological safety cabinets), class I, class II and class III (note the roman numerals, this is important to avoid confusion with other standards and recommendations relating to bio-safety). EN12469 in many ways moves away from doctrine regulation to one of --- first carry out a risk assessment and then consider (taking en12469 2000 into account) what one should do (or of course consult Safety Cabinet Solutions Ltd (SCS) where we offer our services on a consultancy basis - free of charge should equipment be purchased through us). Be aware, many, with vested interests, or (being charitable) maybe where, due to ignorance wrongly given information is believed, may suggest the new standard is a lesser standard than your pervious (BS5726 in the UK) national standard, this is incorrect as it is not, period! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
