Working with powders  be it for sensitive weighing, general working or dealing with possible suspect items (including asbestos) of one type or another can be a hazardous process requiring varying degrees of protection to be provided for workers and to the environment.

Powder weighing presents a number of considerations in a powder cabinet design, not least how stable the cabinet is allowing for sensitive weighing measurements and of course the protection against a solid (powder) as opposed to an aerosol (the normal usage of a microbiological (biohazard) safety cabinet - msc).

Essentially powder weighing cabinets fall into two categories:

  1. This ergonomically designed and relatively inexpensive inward airflow design (popular across the globe) incorporates a protection shield for the balance, thereby reducing the effects of the cabinet's inward airflow.
